Science - Rocks & Soils

Children were introduced to our new unit of work this week 'Rocks & Soils.'

Using hand lenses, children were able to explore the apperance of a number of rocks, they were asked to sort them into groups using similarities and differences and label their groups.  After this, children used secondary sources to identify the tyes of rocks and labelled the rocks individually by name.  

Children really got stuck into the session and really enjoyed exploring the similarities and differences and did a fantastic job at identifying rocks such as limestone, sandstone, marble, granite and coal.
